My dear Young People,
GOOD SHEPHERD APPEAL 2010
Jesus called himself the Good Shepherd. He spoke of the importance of looking out for the lost, the lonely, the hungry, the ones needing care. For many years, our Good Shepherd Appeal gives us the chance to show our support for people who feel just like that sometimes.
We are very fortunate to have Catholic Children’s Society in our Diocese. Our organisation works with children and families on our behalf. We provide support and skills for children who have suffered loss as a result of a death of a loved one or a family breakdown. We offer services to families who are struggling with isolation, violence, drug or alcohol problems. In addition it helps people who were adopted in years gone by.
During Lent each year, I invite our schools and colleges to raise money to help the work of Catholic Children’s Society. It is a great source of pride for me to witness your generous response to that invitation. You are demonstrating your support for those who are most in need of our help. You are putting the Gospel into action in a very real way and showing great solidarity with those children and young people of your own age who need your help.
I know that this year will be no different. I invite you once again to take up the challenge. Please pray especially for the many people whom Catholic Children’s Society supports. Then please participate in the creative fundraising events that are being organised in our schools and colleges during Lent.
